American actress. Born on February 8, 1918, in Boston, Massachusetts; died of a cerebral hemorrhage on September 13, 1973; only daughter of George Baldwin and Katherine Francis (Lynch) Field; studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts; married Elmer Rice (a playwright), on January 12, 1942 (divorced 1956); married Edwin J.
