Iva Toguri, better known as “Tokyo Rose,” was born in Los Angeles on July 4, 1916.
After college, she visited Japan and was stranded there after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Forced to renounce her U.S. citizenship, Toguri found work in radio and was asked to host “Zero Hour,” a propaganda and entertainment program aimed at U.S.
soldiers.
